The Mobile Podcasting Package is designed for ultimate portability to allow you to record with your mobile device. While most mobile phones and tablets are equipped with an on-board microphone, the audio from that microphone isn’t always the best quality. By adding an Audio Technica AT2005 dynamic microphone, you’ll be able to record high quality audio with your mobile phone or tablet. The Sescom TRRS to XLR cable will not only connect the microphone to the input jack of Apple and Android devices, it also gives you a headphone jack so you can still monitor your voice while you record.
NOTE: For recording with Apple devices, we recommend bossjock studio.
NOTE: This package is only able to accommodate 1 host. If you need a package that allows for multiple hosts or a host and an interviewee, we recommend the Portable Package.

If you’re interviewing via Skype, you can use Ecamm Call Recorder if you’re on a Mac, or Pamela for Skype if you’re on a Windows computer.

The Audio Technica AT 2005 is an excellent microphone for traveling or for those on a tight budget. This mic is identical to the ATR 2100 on the inside. It has a USB connection that works well with PC or Mac and it also has an XLR connection that can be used to connect the mic to an audio mixer. It comes with the mic, USB cable, XLR cable, and small (although impractical) stand. This is a dynamic style microphone.
The Shure SM58 is a legendary vocal microphone. This mic has a reputation for being durable and delivering accurate vocal tones in live and studio settings. This is the microphone that we used during the entire run of The Fringe Podcast through mid 2013. It is a dynamic microphone which means that it will not pick up extra room noise or echo nearly as much as a condenser microphone. The Shure SM58 has an XLR connection and must be used with a mixer.
The Heil PR 40 is considered by most professional podcasters to be the gold standard of podcasting microphones. Used by highly respected podcasters such as Leo Laporte and Cliff Ravenscraft, this microphone delivers depth and vocal qualities usually only found in high end radio microphones. The Heil PR-40 is also a dynamic microphone which makes it ideal for less than sound-proof environments. We upgraded to this microphone in mid 2013.

This is a great tool that will prevent distortion caused by talking too loud or yelling, add depth and more bass to the sound of your voice, and prevent any ambient sound from coming into the mic when you’re not speaking. We initially used the Behringer Pro-XL MDX4600, but each channel but one developed hissing over time and became unusable after about 18 months. Many other have NOT had this same experience.
The DBX 166xs is a 2 channel compressor/limiter/gate. DBX has a strong reputation for quality and long lasting equipment, and that has been our experience as well. This rack mounted processor provides great sound, has a clear, easy to use control panel. The DBX 166xs can be used in stereo or dual-mono operation and features balanced inputs and outputs on 1/4″ TRS and XLR connectors.
